"body_md": "Crews have begun leveling Town Square Park in downtown Anchorage, clearing out nearly every tree as part of a full redesign of the space, located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The Kobuk, a shop next to the park, has watched the construction unfold firsthand, and its owner says she's excited about the open sight lines the project is creating across the block.\n\nThe redesign replaces the park's old mounds and shadowed corners with lighted pathways, gardens, a play area for children, and a stage built for live music and events. The park will remain fenced off until new lighting is installed, which may not happen until spring.\n\nAnchorage's mayor says the Town Square project is one part of a larger downtown revival effort that also includes bringing a library back downtown and upgrading the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. The full Town Square redesign is expected to be completed by fall of 2027.\n\nThe city's annual tree lighting ceremony will still take place this year despite the construction. Organizers are selecting a new location for the event.",
