"body_md": "The Fairbanks North Star Borough is planning a full refurbishment of Fifth Avenue Park, located near North Pole Elementary School in North Pole, Alaska, with the goal of making it the central green space for the city. The borough held a community open house to gather public feedback on the project's design.\n\nThe plans call for an ADA-accessible playground, new walkways, an improved parking lot, and a replacement restroom. The current restroom is out of service. Additional features under consideration include a walking loop, lawn areas, seating, buried utility lines, and interpretive signage. Borough planners also intend to thin trees on the site to open up the space.\n\nThe project carries a budget of just over 2 million dollars. Design work is set to continue through next winter, with construction not expected to begin until 2027. The borough plans to hold additional open houses and public outreach before construction starts.\n\nFamilies with children at North Pole Elementary, along with residents across North Pole and the broader Fairbanks area, are among those most directly affected by the park's redesign, since Fifth Avenue Park is positioned as the city's primary community green space.",
