"body_md": "The Central Mat-Su Fire Department has partnered with Wasilla High School to build a firefighter training program for upperclassmen in the Mat-Su Borough. The two year class mixes classroom work, physical training, and hands-on skills that mirror what actual department recruits go through.\n\nProgram leaders say they launched the effort after watching cadet sign-ups shrink and the volunteer pool thin across the Valley, even as the need for firefighters keeps growing. Rather than wait for adults to apply after high school, the department and the school are building the next generation of firefighters while students are still enrolled.\n\nStudents in the program learn how fire service actually works before graduation, moving through the same mix of coursework and physical conditioning that real recruits face. One former cadet from the program has already landed a job with the Central Mat-Su Fire Department and is continuing emergency response training there.\n\nThe department's goal now is to expand the program so more Mat-Su students can take part, including those from outlying areas of the borough who do not attend Wasilla High School directly.",
