I realize by now there's a lot of you watching, so I should probably tell you what's going on here. First off, this isn't what I do for work. In the real world, I'm in the mortgage space, and I primarily help people with real estate. I'm not a news anchor, and I'm not a journalist. I'm just a dude with a phone trying to put what's actually happening in our communities in front of your eyeballs.

I found myself stuck in the exact same routine as probably a lot of you: work, kids, home, repeat. And because I was so buried in that routine, I was missing the stuff that actually mattered. Changes happening in our communities, schools closing down, cost of living skyrocketing. (And apparently we're all fighting about leaf blowers now.)

So I started thinking: if most of our attention is on social media, why not bring those updates to life on the platforms? How many other parents are stuck in this exact same pattern, grinding through the day and missing what's happening around us?

That's why I started The Daily Alaska. No fancy production, no crazy editing, just community updates dropped straight into your news feed.

Slav is a U.S. Army veteran with 14 years of service, a dad, and a Mat-Su resident.

What we cover

We cover the Mat-Su Borough and Anchorage first: schools, assemblies and city councils, roads, the cost of living, public safety, and state decisions that hit home. We cover the rest of Alaska when what happens there matters here.
