What we collect
If you join our newsletter, we collect your email address and town or city. Advertiser accounts may include business and contact details, while event submissions include the information and media an organizer provides. Like most websites, our servers also create standard logs such as request times, pages visited, browser details and network addresses.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. It may place cookies, and we enable IP anonymisation to reduce the precision of network-address data used for analytics. You can limit cookies through your browser settings.
Advertising
Google AdSense may use cookies or similar technology to deliver and measure ads, including personalised ads where permitted. You can manage those choices in Google's Ads Settings and read Google's advertising privacy information. Our own house ads count impressions and clicks without collecting personal information.
Payments and service providers
Advertiser payments and event sponsorship purchases are processed by Stripe; we do not receive full payment-card numbers. Beehiiv manages our newsletter delivery and subscriber list. Each newsletter includes an unsubscribe link that can be used at any time.
How long we keep information
We retain information only as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal and accounting duties, resolve disputes and protect the site. Retention periods differ by type: for example, payment records may be kept longer than routine server logs.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, please contact us so we can address it.
Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
We use Meta's and TikTok's APIs only to publish our own videos and posts to The Daily Alaska's pages and accounts, and to read the statistics for those posts. We do not collect, store or share other users' platform data through those integrations. If you follow, comment on or message our pages, that activity stays on the platform and is governed by the platform's own privacy policy.
How to delete your data
You can ask us to delete the information we hold about you at any time, and track the request with a confirmation code.
You can also email us via the Contact page; either way we confirm within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
You may ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions. You can also unsubscribe from the newsletter or change cookie settings at any time. Use the details on our Contact page to make a request or ask a privacy question.
