Editorial Standards

Independence

No advertiser, sponsor, candidate, political party or outside organization decides what we cover or how we cover it. Advertising and paid partnerships are clearly labelled, and advertisers do not see stories before publication.

Accuracy & sourcing

Every story cites its sources so readers can check the work. We start with public records whenever possible and clearly credit reporting from other outlets. We do not publish single-source rumors as news.

Corrections

When we make a material error, we correct it visibly and explain what changed. Our process and public record of changes are on the Corrections page.

Fairness

People and organizations facing meaningful criticism should have a reasonable chance to respond before publication. If they do not respond by deadline, we say that and remain open to adding a substantive response later.

Conflicts of interest

Slav works in mortgage lending. The Daily Alaska does not cover his employer, clients or transactions. Coverage involving real estate includes a disclosure of that professional connection so readers can judge it for themselves.

Political coverage

The Daily Alaska does not endorse candidates or parties. Paid political advertising is labelled, identifies who paid for it and is disclosed in line with Alaska Public Offices Commission rules.

Privacy & minors

We weigh public interest against unnecessary harm and avoid publishing private personal details that are not needed to understand a story. We take extra care with children and do not identify minors in sensitive situations unless there is a strong public-interest reason.

Comments / social

We welcome disagreement and do not remove comments simply because they criticize us or our coverage. We may moderate harassment, threats, doxxing, spam and repeated disruption — not opinion.

Contact

Send questions, concerns or evidence through our Contact page. We read every message and take documented corrections seriously.
